Speaker Quits

The Armenian political landscape has been rocked by Artur Baghdasarian's decision to resign as parliamentary speaker and withdraw his Orinats Yerkir (OY) party from the governing coalition. The move follows recent disagreements between Baghdasarian and President Robert Kocharian on the direction of the country's foreign policy. The former parliamentary speaker had openly called on Armenia to look towards membership of the EU and NATO to ensure its long-term security, directly contradicting existing government policy.
