The separatist region of Transdniestria is set to hold parliamentary elections in December, as part of a peace plan promoted by Ukranian president, Viktor Yushchenko. The poll will be independently monitored, but as the region is not internationally recognised, the result mainly takes on internal significance. A far more important event for the region's future is a new round of talks, joined by the EU and US, designed to resolve the conflict.
