Tricky Times For US Relations

Relations with the US have failed to live up to the promise of the early Putin/Bush years. BMI View: The close personal rapport between the two presidents has to a certain extent concealed a backdrop of diverging national interests. Although both sides have much to lose from a further deterioration in relations, the likelihood of such a deterioration has increased, in light of heightened US pressure for further 'regime change' within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), especially Belarus.
