June 2006 | Political Risk AnalysisHungary's politicians could well have been accused of 'navel-gazing' in recent months, with both a pre- and post-election focus on domestic issues. Indeed, the question of foreign policy barely raised its head in the run-up to April's votes, and was not a ground where any of the major parties held radically differing views, with all in favour of greater Western and specifically European policy orientation. This in itself is of no small importance for the country, seeing as the issue of joining the EU was only put to a public referendum in 2003.
