Opposition Enters Policy Debate
July 2005 | Political Risk AnalysisPoland's two main centre-right opposition parties have claimed that they are capable of lowering the 2006 budget deficit below the PLN30bn (equivalent to 3% of GDP) envisaged by the ruling Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). Law and Justice (PiS) deputy leader Wojciech Jazinski indicated that his party would target a budget deficit of PLN26bn next year, if elected to power, with fiscal savings to be realised from a combination of improved financial management by government agencies and a switch to a task-based budget (which would increase scrutiny of public finances).
