Croatia

October 2012 | Risk Summary

The Foreign Minister of Croatia and European Minister Vesna Pucic met with her British counterpart William Hague on October 17 in London. The working visit was part of the Croatian Foreign Minister's drive to gain accession of Croatia's EU accession application. The UK foreign office has stated it will likely ratify the treaty by the end of the year. As of writing, 17 EU member states have ratified Croatia's treaty in domestic parliaments. Croatia must gain unanimous ratification from all 27 EU member states in order to join the EU in 2013. We see little scope for this date to be pushed back in spite of threats from Slovenia not to ratify Croatia's treaty.
