August 2012 | Ratings Update

According to polling data released by Ipsos, the ruling Fidesz party saw its support among eligible voters rise to 17% in August, up from 16% in July. At the same time, the Hungary Socialist Party (MSZP) saw its support remain at 14% in August, while the far-right Jobbik party garnered 8% support, down from 10% in July. Despite the uptick in support for Fidesz, we still think it will be very difficult for the government to avoid a slide in its public support as they are forced to comply with IMF and EU demands and the domestic economy remains weak.
