Poland is heavily reliant on coal for its energy needs and has repeatedly frustrated EU-level measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions, which it feels would harm its long-term economic development. A spokesman from the Danish EU presidency claimed that Poland's stance would not prevent the bloc pressing ahead with low-carbon plans.
