June 2012 | Risk Summary'Georgian Dream' opposition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili will likely be participating in October's parliamentary election after lawmakers voted to amend a law allowing Georgian-born EU citizens to live in the country for five years and participate in parliamentary and presidential elections in May. Although the bill has to be ratified by President Mikhail Saakashvili, the development is a boost to the billionaire opposition leader, who had his Georgian citizenship revoked for holding a French passport in 2011. Ivanishvili launched his opposition campaign at the end of May by promising free healthcare to citizens and improved education, health insurance and agriculture in the country.
