March 2012 | Risk Summaryhe Central Election Committee has failed to approve the results of a number of regional elections in Kyrgyzstan which has added to public discontent surrounding the elections. This is most pertinent in the south of the country, particularly in Osh, which was the centre of the 2010 violence following the ousting of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. We see little prospect for the ongoing political turmoil and the deep divide between the ethnically Kyrgyz-dominated north and ethnic Uzbek-dominated south to abate. While we highlight that Kyrgyzstan's road to democracy is encouraging, we reiterate that it will be long and fraught with difficulties.
