December 2011 | Macroeconomic ForecastsWe have revised up our forecast for Turkmenistan's economic growth in 2011, to 10.4% from 9.7% previously, on the back of strong gas exports. We hold to our forecast for growth in 2012 to moderate to 9.2% as the external environment continues to deteriorate, limiting demand for Turkmen exports. We continue to expect the hydrocarbons sector to be the greatest contributor to economic growth, but increased public investment in infrastructure will help bolster the macroeconomic outlook in the event of a more precipitous slowdown in growth.
