October 2011 | Risk SummaryFollowing a meeting between Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie and Commander of the Land forces of the Polish Armed Forces Zbigniew Glowienka on October 21, bilateral military relations between the two countries are set to expand. Notwithstanding Poland being a member of NATO and the EU, with most military cooperation involving other Western states, Beijing and Warsaw have been involved in the past in programmes of professional military communication and cooperation. As Poland is increasingly taking a leading political role in the Central European region, Commander Glowienka stated how frequent high level visits to the Asian country will intensify, in a bid to bring 'bilateral military ties to a new level'.
