US ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick has stated his assuredness that Bulgaria will join the Schengen visa-free travel zone eventually, but the timing of entry is unclear. The ambassador pointed to the fact that Bulgaria has completed the technical requirements for entry and is waiting on the European Commission to give the go-ahead. However, with key Schengen states seeking amendments to the current agreement, and the Netherlands' firm stance that it will reject Bulgaria's entry to Schengen, we expect this issue to remain on ice for the time being.
