Lithuania
August 2011 | Risk SummaryLithuanian politics is becoming increasingly disconnected with the local electorate, as disillusionment with the country's politicians grows. Although support for the country's president, Dalia Grybauskaite, remains at 33.9% according to a Vilmorus poll in July, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius received a mere 2.0% of support. To be sure, some 71.7% of respondents distrust political parties with over 75% distrusting parliament altogether. Perhaps not surprisingly, therefore, the number of respondents who wouldn't vote in July rose to 24.6%, up from 21.1% in May and 19.9% in February. With the government remaining committed to its fiscal austerity drive, we expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future.
