Pakistan has expressed a desire to improve cooperation with Uzbekistan in a bid to increase trade volumes between the two countries. The statement of intent came at a meeting between Uzbekistan's ambassador to Pakistan Oybek Arif Usmanov and the President of the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Senator Haji Ghulam Ali. Usmanov expressed particular interest in improving foreign investment in the energy, pharmaceuticals and textiles industries by way of heavy incentives to investors. While we expect this to be a positive development for both countries, we see scope for increased cooperation with Pakistan to potentially strain ties with regional heavyweight Russia.
