Instability To Persist

We see little potential for a significant improvement in Tajikistan's security situation over the medium term. Despite a number of successes for Tajik security forces in the restive Rasht valley against alleged Islamic militants, we believe that domestic policies attempting to stem the rise of Islam in society, especially in the context of the pending US withdrawal from Afghanistan, will only work to increase destabilising elements in Tajikistan.
