Talks in May between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Romania Traian Basescu have been hailed a success and mark an important deepening of ties between the two nations. Particular emphasis was placed on furthering economic cooperation. President Berdimuhamedov also spoke in support of the Trans-Caspian project. We view this as a positive development that will likely yield rewards for Turkmenistan by way of diversifying export markets for its commodities, particularly natural gas.
