The decision by judge Sulaiman Atakulov on May 19 to recuse himself from a trial involving ethnic Uzbek community leaders in Jalal-Abad means that the trial is now on hold. The defense requested the recusal on the grounds that the defendents have no trust in him. The Uzbek defendents are being charged with inciting interethnic hatred, separatist propaganda and participating in the violence in June 2010, which saw hundreds of ethnic Uzbek and Kyrgyz killed and President Kurmanbek Bakiyev deposed.
